What happened during the pre-production phase? 

• Whose idea was the film? Did the idea start with the writer, or were writers brought in to develop a preconceived idea? 
I, Daniel Blake is a 2016 drama film directed by Ken Loach and written by Loach's frequent collaborator Paul Laverty.


• Where did the idea come from? Was it an original idea, or perhaps a book first, or TV series, or comic strip, or from some other source?

The idea comes from a a loophole in the system as it puts a lense on unemployed people  who are possibly unfit to work and are not receiving benefits which they may be entitled to.  it was a original idea which is a independent film.

 Was the film based upon an original script or developed over time by many writers?
it was written by ken loach. The Guardian film team joked that the synopsis, which was supplied by Loach’s regular screenwriter Paul Laverty.

 Who financed the film - Production Company? What other films have they produced?
The movie is financed by the BBC which is financed from viewers as the pay for there tv license,  'received £1,015,000 from the British Film Institute.'


• Casting – who were cast in the main roles and why? How important were stars? How did the film-makers think the chosen stars would appeal to audiences? 

a main role was dave johns who had his main break through asa  lead role, he had previously been a 'veteran stand up comedian'.

Rebecca O'Brien is the producer 

• Who was the director and why did they take the project on? 

ken loach is the director and took it on to connect to people and put across a message to challenge the laws

Kenneth Charles Loach is an English director of television and independent film. He is known for his socially critical directing style and for his socialist ideals,

What happened during the production phase?

Was it an easy ‘shoot’? If there were difficulties what were they? Were there tensions between any of the creative personnel, often known as ‘the talent’? there was no difficulties whilst filming/ casting. at the premier there was a march about low incomes


• Was any part of the film shot on location? If so, where? Why were some locations chosen over others? Were costs a factor? 

The actual flat is in greenville terrace, newcastle                                                                                , midway between the Tyne Bridge and the Ouseburn where it was filmed, as well as in NE of land.

• Where there any difficulties with casting or with acquiring the stars/actors the producer wanted? The main actor who played daniel blake was a stand up comedian who had told a magazine that this was his last attempt to become a actor, also there was a lot of controversy of working middle class acts to act as lower class heroin addicts.

• What did the film cost to make? How much did the stars get? Where did the budget go? Was the film shot within budget? Was it ever in any danger of going over budget?

the movie was written by paul lavrty and ken loach and had not changed

The movie premier was on  on the 18 October,2016 in the UK and the movie was released on  21 October,2016.

 followers on twitter . there was also a premier on the 18th of October in Newcastle. also had interviews and features with the guardian, heyuguys, salon, the upcoming, the red carpet news tv, empire online, village voice.

the trailer for i Daniel Blake is showed to be inspiring as well as showing a insight on the life of people who are looking for a job seeking allowance or struggling as not receiving benefits, uses uplifting music to try have sympathy for them trying to survive and getting denied by the system  

• What outlets were used for advertising? Was TV used, for example?
the movie was advvertised using tv adverts, youtube trailers. 

• Were there any merchandising tie-ins?

There are no merchanides directly from the movie however brands such as red bubble (which let you create your own tops) offer i daniel blake themed tops.

• Was any additional publicity gained, and if so, how?
the movie itself created controversy as it highlighted a flaw in the system which people have been trying to challenge, and with the help of the movie has helped highlight this.
